Oneida County Executive Delivers State of the County Address on
Oneida Indian Nation Lands, Highlights Collaborative Partnership
On Wednesday, April 6, 2022, Oneida County Executive Tony Picente delivered his annual State of the County address on Oneida Indian Nation lands. It is the first time in New York history that a County Executive delivered a State of the County address on sovereign Indian lands. It was the utmost sign of respect by Tony Picente to the Oneida people, and a reflection of the uniquely collaborative relationship between the Oneida Indian Nation and Oneida County.
The event took place in the Shenandoah Clubhouse. It began with a video highlighting how much Central New York has benefited as a result of the special relationship between the Nation and Oneida County.
RISE Award to the Oneida Indian Nation
RISE (Refugee & Immigrant Self-Empowerment) has awarded the Oneida Indian Nation with its Collaborator Award for our support of the refugee community in Central New York. RISE recently presented its award to the Nation during its annual Night of Nations event. Oneida Indian Nation Representative and Turning Stone Enterprises CEO Ray Halbritter accepted the award on behalf of the Nation in the attached video, which was played during the event.
The Oneida people have welcomed immigrants to its homelands since time immemorial. Today, the Nation’s welcome of immigrants includes career opportunities that help refugees find hope and dignity in our communities. Refugees are now a significant portion of our ONE workforce; they serve in critical, hard-to-fill roles across all of ONE, including in gaming, hospitality, food and beverage, EVS, retail, and many more departments.
